Anemone tomentosa 'Robustissima'

Japanese Anemone

Looking for a low maintenance naturalizing perennial that doubles as a late season bloomer? Look no further than Anemone tomentosa ‘Robustissima’, a Japanese Anemone cultivar selected for its upright blooms on wiry, reddish stems that stand at 3-4’ high, providing an airy haze of cherry-blossom-pink, five-petalled blooms from August to October. Flowers appear above deeply cut, dark green foliage resembling grape leaves that offers its own attractive quality to the garden. In fact, ‘Robustissima’ Japanese Anemone is sometimes commonly called Grapeleaf Anemone due to its leaf shape. A lovely addition to the sensory garden, where its gangly blooms dance in the breeze and offer a visual break within the landscape. Whether planted in full or partial sun, Anemone tomentosa ‘Robustissima’ will bloom dutifully, inviting butterflies and bees to the garden throughout the late summer and into the fall. As if this hardy, fast-growing perennial weren’t awesome enough already, it’s also deer and rabbit resistant, salt tolerant, resistant to many common plant pests and diseases, and capable of handling wet soils so long as it has good winter drainage.
