Diospyros virginiana Magic Fountain

Diospyros virginiana 'Magic Fountain'

Persimmon

'Magic Fountain' Common Persimmon is an unusual weeping form of one of our native fruit trees, found by Ray Jackson of Tennessee.  Diospyros 'Magic Fountain' is a female form, so it bears round 1" fruits that turn an attractive yellow in late fall.  After the reddish yellow leaves fall, the fruit looks like large crabapples hanging from the branches, and is very attractive to wildlife.  It is edible after several good freezes, but extremely astringent if you make the mistake of trying to eat it earlier.
