Calamagrostis canadensis

Canada Bluejoint

Canada Bluejoint is our native Feather Reed Grass, and unusual for tall grasses in that it is happiest in moist to wet soils.  The tall green stems are topped by airy seedheads which turn from shades of blue and purple in early summer to attractive tans in fall and winter.  Calamagrostis canadensisis is less consistently upright than 'Karl Foerster', but it spreads by rhyzomes to make a large, resilient clump.  It is great for bogs, stream sides, wet site stabilization and moist woods edges.  A multitude of wildlife feed on the foliage and seeds.
