Chelone lyonii 'Pink Temptation'
Tempting, indeed! The rosy pink, snapdragon-shaped flowers of Chelone lyonii 'Pink Temptation' just beg to be touched and played with. Resembling small pink turtleheads, the late summer flowers of this native perennial provide a much coveted source of nectar for native bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. From late July into September, Chelone lyonii 'Pink Temptation' adds a bit of curiosity and late season interest to rain gardens, woodland edges, and moisture-retentive perennial borders, although it also makes a wonderful candidate for shady children's gardens where the peculiarly shaped flowers are sure to keep the little ones entertained. The sultry deep green foliage adds a moodiness to shady areas with moist soil, with the soft pink flowers acting as tiny beacons in the woodland darkness. 'Pink Temptation' Turtlehead's fondness of moist, sometimes inundated soils makes it particularly useful in stormwater-focused plantings and low areas where consistent moisture poses a challenge.
