Chrysopsis mariana

Maryland Golden Aster

The best parts of goldenrods and asters all tied into one! Chrysopsis mariana, or Maryland Goldenaster, is a resilient eastern native perennial producing cheerful golden-yellow aster-like flowers from August to October above softly pubescent grey-green foliage. Naturally adapted to sandy soils, dry meadows, pinelands, and open coastal habitats, Maryland goldenaster performs exceptionally well in lean, well-drained conditions with minimal supplemental care. Its woolly foliage provides visual interest even when out of bloom, while the sunny yellow flowers offer an important nectar resource for late-season pollinators. Chrysopsis mariana is an excellent candidate for ecological restoration, xeric plantings, coastal landscapes, and contemporary meadow-style designs.
