Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora 'George Davidson'

Montbretia

A unique heirloom selection of this semi-tropical perennial species, Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora ‘George Davidson’ produces bright yellow blooms on 2’ stems that give the summer garden an exotic appeal. Flower buds first appear as a tangerine-orange, unraveling to expose the warm yellow petals between early-to-mid June and continuing into August. The tubular, apricot-to-yellow, early-blooming flowers of ‘George Davidson’ Montbretia are attractive to various pollinators, including hummingbirds and butterflies. When not in bloom, the strappy, sword-like foliage adds a vertical component to the landscape, and is typically ignored by hungry herbivores. Native to grasslands in South Africa, ‘George Davidson’ Montbretia grows best in full sun to partial shade with well-draining, medium soils, although it prefers some afternoon shade in areas where summers get particularly hot.
