Pieris japonica 'Valley Rose'
Pieris japonica ‘Valley Rose’ is an ornamental evergreen shrub with shiny, dark green foliage that becomes almost completely obscured by dense panicles of pendulous pink bell-shaped blooms. Bi-colored, dusty red-rose to light pink flowers perform quite a show from March to April, when they are visited by early spring pollinators such as small mason bees. The floral buds begin appearing the summer prior to blooming, giving this shrub multi-seasonal interest beyond its glossy evergreen foliage. With a loose, somewhat leggy habit and an overall height and width of 5’ to 6’, ‘Valley Rose’ Japanese Andromeda makes a great addition to the edge of the woodland garden or as a foundation planting where it can be underplanted with smaller perennials.
