Schizachyrium scoparium 'Ha Ha Tonka' PP32374

Little Bluestem

Distinctly ornamental with its overtly pubescent and colorful blades, Schizachyrium scoparium ‘Ha Ha Tonka’ is a new variety of little bluestem bred and selected by master plantsmen, Piet Oudolf and Cassian Schmidt. This decadent warm season native grass performs spectacularly in the full sun garden with well-draining soil, demonstrating a consistently upright habit and vigorous growth rate with beautiful fall color. Red and orange-tinged blue-green foliage compliments the autumnal landscape palette, while the dense pubescence provides a dazzling silhouette when backlit with late season sun rays. Summer-blooming inflorescences persist as showy seedheads well into the winter months and provide nesting materials for birds in early spring.
