Heliopsis helianthoides - False Sunflower

Heliopsis helianthoides

Sunflower - False

Ox Eye False Sunflower produces masses of 2” bright yellow daisy-like flowers through a good portion of the summer. This prairie native tolerates a wide range of soil conditions, from moist clay to drier meadows and edges of woods.  Considered a short-lived perennial, it self-sows readily producing new plants.   The flowers provide excellent food for finches following the bloom period. Since Heliopsis seeds itself readily in a variety of soils, it is an excellent plant for naturalizing.
