Year's End Wrap-Up Notes

As we wrap things up for 2024 and begin to reflect on the months behind us, we want to thank you for your continued support and friendship throughout the year. Despite unprecedented weather-related challenges, some production hurdles, and an entire reconstruction of our website, this has still managed to be our most successful year to date.

We’ve exponentially increased our production space, as well as our native plant selections, and have seen a wildly positive response to this change. We look forward to continuing our improvement and exploration of not only the wide spectrum of native plant species, but our ever-evolving love of obscure and hard-to-find ornamentals.

Thank you for allowing us to serve and provide you with quality plant material throughout this year and the years to come.

Just a friendly annual reminder that now is when our crew starts to clean up, cut back, and trim some of our plant material, primarily our perennials. This ensures a more sanitary growing environment to prevent the spread of pathogens, and encourages a healthy, lush explosion of growth the following year.

Recently, we explored the benefits of keeping the stems and seeds up and available throughout the winter for local wildlife to flourish during the colder months. This is highly encouraged for landscapes of all kinds, from home gardens to naturalized areas that benefit from a cleanup in the springtime. In the world of plant production, removing spent plant material also minimizes the potential for dormant fungal pathogens to wreak havoc on new growth upon the arrival of warmer weather.

The removal of dead plant material in greenhouse production also limits the amount of space and shelter necessary to benefit potentially harmful insect and arachnid pests that impact fresh, juvenile plant growth, and ultimately ensures a better, healthier, mature plant product at the finish line.

We do our best to keep some of our more “attractive” seasonal selections available until the very end! In need of some dried seedheads for winter projects or arrangements? Make sure to take advantage of our large grass selection, many of which we keep untrimmed typically until many of our herbaceous perennials have been cleaned up.

We also offer a large selection of junipersevergreen magnoliasboxwoodssemi-evergreen to evergreen sedgeshelleboresJapanese andromedas and so much more! Even at the heart of winter, and despite our cleanup process, we guarantee to have something useful for fulfilling your project needs. Make sure to keep an eye out on our availability for updated Grower’s Comments regarding some of our cold-friendly options and their current states!

Additionally, we now have plastic up on a vast majority of our houses. Sure, a lot of our things are headed into or are actively in dormancy, but our many sheltered spaces offer respite from the winter weather, inviting you to come wander around during even the coldest months and begin planning for your 2025 installations.
