Paeonia 'Dr Alexander Fleming'

Herbaceous Peony

Paeonia ‘Dr. Alexander Fleming’, an herbaceous Garden Peony cross between ‘Sarah Bernhardt’ and ‘Bunker Hill’ Garden Peonies, is prized for its frilly pink, double-petal flowers that grace the garden with their beauty and delicate fragrance between May and June. The massive flowers, reaching 6” in diameter, are something out of a princess’ fairytale dream: the curled, filigree-like petals give the blooms a globose shape, making them wonderful additions as mass flowers in fresh arrangements or as the focal point in the cottage garden or border planting. Multiple buds appear on a single flower stalk, promising consistent blooms for up to 6 weeks during the late spring and early summer. Deeply divided, medium green foliage with multiple leaflets, emerges prior to the arrival of the flower buds, eventually creating a dense mound after several years of establishment. In late summer and autumn, interesting-looking seedpods replace the flowers, which can also be used in dried or fresh seasonal arrangements. On top of being deer and rabbit resistant, ‘Dr. Alexander Fleming’ Garden Peony is also moderately drought and salt tolerant once established.
