'Blackbeard' Beardtongue has beautiful foliage in shades of eggplant and dark purple. The color stays intense throughout the summer and is topped by deep purple stems bearing showy lilac to pink open faced flowers. Penstemon 'Blackbeard' makes an excellent long lasting cut flower, and when finished blooming in the garden, the seedheads remain deep purple and attractive. Pollinators like bumblebees, swallowtail butterflies, and ruby-throated hummingbirds are attracted to these native plants. A Walters Nursery introduction.
