Penstemon digitalis 'Pocahontas' PP24804

Foxglove Beardtongue

All of the best parts of our native straight species Foxglove Beardtongue, but with a dark, moody twist. Penstemon digitalis ‘Pocahontas’ features dark purplish-green foliage with red and burgundy tones, which is topped by pinkish purple flowers on deep red stems from May to July. It is these sultry reddish hues that ‘Pocahontas’ Foxglove Beardtongue was selected for, as well as its substantial growth habit and ability to flourish in many cultivated environments. Flowers reappear sporadically throughout the summer and into the fall, and much like the species, are attractive to a wide range of pollinators, from butterflies to hummingbirds to bees. The flowers also make a great addition to the fresh cut flower arrangement, as do the interesting seedheads that take their place in autumn. Once established, ‘Pocahontas’ Foxglove Beardtongue can tolerate dry soil and drought conditions, and is largely disease, pest, and deer resistant.
