Prunus x hillieri 'Spire'

Cherry

Prunus x hillieri ‘Spire’ is a fruitless selection of Flowering Cherry tree, with the focus on its fragrant white to light pink flowers in mid-April and its exceptional reddish-orange to purplish-red fall color. In early spring, cotton candy pink flower buds begin to develop before opening to reveal five-petaled blooms of pink tinged with creamy white, which are on full display by the time the lustrous green foliage begins to emerge. The tall, upright habit of this tree provides a lovely vertical element to a variety of garden spaces, paired with its low maintenance needs make it more than suitable for tricky spots such as small urban sites to sidewalk and pathway plantings. It also makes a lovely foundation plant due to its narrow shape, which is enhanced by the mature branches that take on a graceful arching appearance, giving the tree a broader, vase-shaped canopy as it ages.
