Illicium x 'Woodland Ruby'

'Woodland Ruby' Anise-tree has deep purple-red straplike flowers for an extended period in early to mid summer. Foliage is dark green and evergreen, somewhat reflexed in winter. Illicium x 'Woodland Ruby' needs protection from winter winds and is happiest in some shade, but will tolerate full sun as well. Per Bruce Crawford, it is happy in both wet and dry sites (as are many flood plain plants).
