Halesia carolina var. monticola 'Arnold Pink'

Mountain Silverbell

A decorative native tree with all the whistles and bells… silverbells, that is! Halesia carolina ‘Arnold Pink’, known also as H. tetraptera subsp. monticola, is a pink-flowering selection of Mountain Silverbell chosen by the plant experts at Arnold Arboretum. The dangling, bell-shaped flowers that give this tree its name emerge in April and May first as a rosy-pink and fade to a lighter pink as they age. The medium green foliage provides shade at the height of the summer, assuming autumnal yellow hues at the end of the growing season, and abscise to reveal the intriguing striatic bark of the trunk and branches. ‘Arnold Pink’ Mountain Silverbell grows best in average, well-draining soils, and full sun to partial shade, making a lovely specimen in a variety of places from the woodland garden to the open public park.
