Physocarpus opulifolius 'Lucky Devil' PP34243
Ninebark
Low-growing, compact and reliable, Physocarpus opulifolius Lucky Devil® is your new favorite native shrub that you don’t know about yet! A wonderful substitute for non-native Spiraeas, Lucky Devil® Ninebark provides the same landscape benefits with its shrubby, mounded habit, lovely white flowers with pinkish-red centers, and exceptional yellow-green foliage. From April to June, and often sporadically after, clusters of small, bright white flowers appear at the ends of branches. Bees are regular visitors to the flowers, encouraging pollination and the eventual maturation of attractive red fruit capsules that are persistent, attractive to wildlife, and contrast beautifully against the yellowy foliage of the growing season. In autumn, the yellow is overcome by fiery orange shades, bringing a flash of flaming color to the landscape. Adaptable to virtually any and all sites it’s introduced to, Physocarpus opulifolius Lucky Devil® makes a wonderful compact companion whether planted in a group or singly along the sunny perennial border or within the dappled shade woodland garden.
